Hot…or Not
By The Craig Plumbing Staff
So our Q & A format is up and running, and we received a terrific question this week.
How can I get hot water sooner at my guest bathroom that is on the far side of my house? The bathroom is the furthest away from my water heater that is in the garage. Do I need to rip out the drywall or install another water heater closer to the bathroom? I have a closet that would have room for a water heater but I hate to lose the space. Kurt C.
Well Kurt, I think we have all either stayed somewhere, or currently live in a home where we need to wait a long time to get hot water at a faucet or shower. The reason for this is overnight, that hot water line from the water heater to the fixture you are using cools overnight, and now all that cooled water needs to be purged until the hot water finally arrives. This could be hundreds of lineal feet of tubing!
We once lived at a place where I had a morning ritual. I would turn on the shower, brush my teeth, shave and then hope the water was warm enough to step into. Sometimes the wait was so long, I would need to shave a second time as my beard was coming in again. Inconvenient for sure, but what a complete waste of water…up to 12,000 gallons a year! Certainly not ideal for us desert dwellers.
Most all new homes we do include a recirculating line from the fixture back to the water heater to provide hot water promptly and efficiently. But what if you do not have a recirculating line? Fear not Kurt, as we have a solution and it is easy and affordable. For less than $700 in most cases, we can install a pump system at your water heater that uses your existing piping as a return line. We have installed hundreds of these systems, and they work great.
So if you are looking to avoid shaving twice each morning, enjoy hot water promptly and save a whole lot of precious water we have the solution. Give us a call to find out more information, or email us at ask@craigplumbing.net. And by the way Kurt, we are waiting by the phones to schedule your installation!
