Getting Tipsy
By The Craig Plumbing Staff
I don’t know about you, but I feel the pressure to hit that tip button for almost every type of transaction has gotten a little out of hand. On some transactions I will grumble and not do it, while other transactions are more than acceptable to me.
When dining out, I actually find it very easy to give a nice tip for good service, and a terrific tip for outstanding service. Additionally, I am fine with the various tip options at a restaurant, as it saves me from putting on a pair of readers and doing the math.
Same goes for the nail tech who ends up drawing the short straw, and doing a pedicure on a guy with feet like a 3 toed sloth…that certainly deserves a tip, an exceptional one at that!
The problem I have is other industries that employ the practice of prompting for a tip.
Father Flannigan, I have a confession to make here. We recently started using a new invoicing software for our techs in the field, and it works pretty well. What I did not realize was that there it was, on our very own system…the dreaded tip prompts…made worse by the fact that my sister called me out on it! Hitting the 20% tip button on a $1100.00 water heater installation will have our techs driving a Lamborghini in no time. Not a good look for a company that despises this practice, so we immediately kicked the tip option to the curb and removed that from the platform.
On a recent shoe order I placed, I was prompted to tip the guy in shipping and receiving, which I did out of fear of getting a Women’s 6 instead of a Men’s 12…ridiculous!
If a customer feels we did an exceptional job and wants to tip, that is very much appreciated, but certainly never expected. We are not comfortable prompting anyone for additional money just because we did a good job…doing a good job is expected. Does softening the water make it taste like spring water shooting from a rock face in the Swiss Alps? No, it does not. For drinking water, we feel the best course of action is through reverse osmosis. Softening your water has many benefits, including being kind to plumbing fixtures and faucets, using less soap and shampoo, helping your washing machine, water heater and dishwasher live a long and happy life. Additionally, ladies you can avoid your hair looking like the Bride of Frankenstein’s. A water softener does not raise my blood pressure, but phony, misleading advertising does! Give us a call to see how we can help with all your water conditioning concerns!
